First, prepare the
model as usual and undercoat it in your prefered colour.
Secondly, you will
need to paint the lightest colour all over the area where you want a chequred
pattern.
Then, starting in
a corner, paint a square of the second colour. It is easier to start in
a corner, due to the fact that you only have to paint two sides of the square.
Then paint more squares
diagonally, from the first square.
If you are painting
a horse which has folds in it's barding, try to make it look as if the some
of the squares are covered up. You can do this by hiding half a square.
If you are having
problems getting the squares straight, or even, try lightly drawing afew
lines onto the barding in pencil.
