How to Make a Tree

Things you will need:

Step 1

First of all you've got to find some twigs that look like miniature trees. Twigs snap very easily so it's best to go for shorter more stumpy twigs. The best way to find suitable twigs is to go for a walk somewhere where there are lot of trees and pick them up off the floor.

Step 2

You may want to shorten some of the branches so that it is not so straggly. Remember though, to leave the trunk a little bit long to allow for the base.

Step 3

Make sure the hole in the wooden circle is large enough for the twig to go in. If it is not then drill a larger hole of file it with a round file.

Step 4

Sand off the edge so the piece of wood is more mound shaped.

Step 5

Glue a circle of paper over the hole on the bottom of base using PVA glue and leave it for about 20-30 minutes to dry. This is to stop the base sticking to the table in the next step

Step 6

Glue the tree into the hole using PVA glue

Step 7

Flock the base of the tree, for instructions on how to flock your tree base see: Adding Detail to Bases

Step 8

Leave the tree somewhere warm for at least 6 hours to make sure that the PVA glue is really dry then glue lichen on to the tree with some more PVA glue.

You could make a larger base with more drill holes in and make a forest. Alternatively if you want a forest you could make all the trees on small bases and place them together on the playing board. This way you can vary the size of the forest between games.
